The Right Wedding Jewelry for Bridesmaids

Weddings are notorious for demanding several different details as part of the big day. While most brides forego the decision of bridesmaid jewelry to the bridesmaids themselves, I’d like to challenge this thinking. Instead of leaving it up to chance with the possibility of inappropriate accompanying jewelry, here are a few tips for brides-to-be interested in picking the right wedding jewelry for bridesmaids.

Just a quick caveat before we begin; this blog is intended for the western bride. Traditions for other cultures are vastly different (I’m thinking of Indian ceremonies where the bride wears 15+ decadent jewelry pieces and looks divine with all of them) and I’m certainly no expert.

Keep the metals consistent

First things first, if you’re creating guidelines for your bridesmaids, start with a consistent metal type for everyone. If you picked cooler wedding colors, including greens, grey, blues, purples, and even black, silver is a great metal to accompany these colors and seamlessly blend in. If you picked warmer colors like red, orange, gold, or pinks, gold or even rose gold will elegantly accent these colors.

Earring guidelines

Simple earrings can go with just about any dress neckline. But if you’re planning to have your bridesmaids wear larger accent earrings, make sure the dresses don’t have complex necklines that could clash, or get caught on the fabric. An off-the-shoulder dress would pair nicely with longer bold earrings.

Necklaces

Necklaces are the often-thought-of accessory for bridesmaids, and for good reason. This versatile accessory can work with a variety of dresses. That being said, make sure you have the right look to match the bridesmaid dress neckline. If you have a plunging neckline, you can opt for something that is more versatile: a chunky necklace that stands out, or a more simple look that won’t be lost. But if you have a higher neckline, opt for a longer necklace or something that’s larger with more weight so it stands out. In both instances, make sure you’re picking a complementary metal color to accompany your featured color.

Bracelets for your bridesmaids

Bracelets are the often-forgotten accessory, but they can offer so many options! Especially if your wedding theme is more bohemian or country-esque, bracelets can allow you to layer different material types together like beads in your wedding colors, fabric and leather, and even metals allowing your bridesmaids to fit the theme even more. If you're opting for shorter sleeves, bracelets are a great option.
