2022 Pantone Color of the Year: Very Peri

Many view the new year as a new start, a chance to reevaluate areas of their lives, to try new things, and even incorporate new habits into their lives. To inspire each new year, Pantone releases a new color of the year intended to reflect trends, feelings associated with the new year, and one that will inspire everything from high fashion to accessories.

Very Peri

Meet Very Peri, the 2022 Pantone Color of the Year. Very Peri may be mostly blue, but the redder undertone makes this a fun and lively color to work with. According to Pantone, the color is intended to “display a spritely, joyous attitude and dynamic presence that encourages courageous creativity and imaginative expressions.”

To me, Very Peri walks a fine line between playful and serious, leaning more towards fun. And after two very heavy years filled with a lot of unexpectedly tough situations, Very Peri feels light, fresh, and fun, like the kind of color we all need.

Designing with Very Peri, the 2022 Pantone color of the year

If you’re looking for some ways to pair Very Peri with other colors, Pantone offers https://www.pantone.com/color-of-the-year-2022-palette-exploration palette exploration options that include four different palettes that incorporate the color ranging from neutrals to playfully bold colors. This shows how the Very Peri color can work with a variety of different colors in delightful ways.

For me, gemstones that match Very Peri’s coloring include Iolite, blue lace agate, and blue chalcedony. It’s a color that would work well with silver and gunmetal, but would be elevated by copper, rose gold, and gold metal accents.

Very Peri and my 2022 jewelry designs

The last few years I’ve wanted to design a collection using the color of the year, and this may be the first year I’ve been inspired enough to actually do that. Time will tell if this actually materializes or if it stays on my list of ideas. Regardless, I have a feeling that I’ll be including this color in my spring and fall collections, along with other seasonal Pantone hues.

What do you think about the 2022 Pantone color of the year? Are you excited to embrace it or not thrilled by Pantone’s color choice this year? I’d love to hear from you. Share your thoughts in the comments.
