I don’t often pay attention to high profile weddings, or celebrity functions even. But the thing is, when one of the most wealthy individuals in the world gets married, we all hear about it. And when that wedding happens in India, I pay attention. Why? Because the jewelry in India is out of this world decadent, layered, and features gemstones galore.
In July, Anant Ambani wed Radhika Merchant in a multi-day lavish series wedding ceremony. And if the star-studded guest list, and list of performers was anything to go by, I had a feeling the jewelry was going to be out of this world. Let’s just say my hunch was right and that the jewelry didn’t disappoint.
While this was a more high-profile event than most people will ever experience, there are lessons that any bride can take and implement for her special day. Let’s look at those.
Unique Wedding Jewelry Specific to this Event
First, let’s set the scene with the amazing jewelry show from Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant’s wedding. India has some of the most lavish and beautiful jewelry. Necklaces, earrings, brooches, bracelets; all are worn simultaneously. This event was no exception. We are talking emerald, pearls, diamonds, rubies, and more. Not only were these featured as accents, several designs featured large carats of these stones in the designs.
If you haven’t yet seen the jewelry from this event,
Vogue magazine has a nice round up of the stunning jewelry from this event. Take a look for some jaw-dropping jewelry eye candy.
Creating Your Own Unique Wedding Jewelry
Each bride has their own vision for their wedding jewelry. While very few brides will have the budget that Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant had, there are still common elements.
First, embrace your style. Radhika completely leaned into her heritage and found items that highlighted her culture. In many of her looks she is wearing items that call to the Indian culture. While it is very different than what we are used to in the Western World, it was wonderful to see her culture represented in these striking jewels.
Second, consider something with meaning. Radhika wore items from her family’s collection, going back generations. She also embraced jewelry from her new husband’s collection as well, displaying a form of unity through jewelry. For your special day, we have that saying that you should wear something old, something new, something borrowed, or something blue (for good luck). Jewelry is a great way to bridge the gap and embrace family history and heritage. It’s also a great way to bridge the gap with your new family and wear something meaningful from your new family.
In the last piece of advice, use jewelry to convey meaning and show what’s important to you. Radhika was able to show off multiple looks because of how lavish her wedding celebrations were. While many will only have one wedding celebration and not multiple day events, you can still incorporate meaning into your jewelry by creating unique bridal jewelry for your event. Consider honoring those you love with a memory bracelet featuring images of those unable to attend your event. Embrace the season of your wedding through color, themes, and seasonal flowers all woven into your jewelry designs. Or if you love something niche, don’t hide from that but elevate the theme in a new and exciting way, perhaps through unique handmade wedding jewelry.
Next Steps for Every Bride
If you’re planning your own lavish wedding, adding custom wedding jewelry is one way to stand out. It certainly doesn’t have to be as intricate as Radhika’s looks, but even creating a few handmade bracelets can help you feel unique and special.
Or perhaps you’re looking for great gifts to give your wedding party so they can remember your day for years to come. Jewelry is a great way for the wedding part to feel connected to your event, and for you to honor other special guests like family members too.
