A few weeks ago I met with a friend of mine to discuss some important marketing tips she could begin using for her small businesses. One of the things she had specifically begun dappling in was marketing on Instagram and Facebook.

As we got her set up I realized how important an Instagram hashtag strategy is to create a strong presence on the platform. If you’re new to Instagram, or if you’re trying to increase your engagement, here are three key hashtag tips for building a following and promoting yourself on Instagram.

Post with multiple hashtags

I read a few years ago that posts that have up to 13 hashtags got the most reach, and you can use up to 30 hashtags on your posts. When you’re just getting started, this may seem a bit excessive, however for a platform like Instagram where hashtags are clickable for people interested in those topics, it makes sense.

To maximize this strategy do some research about hashtags other businesses in your industry use. You can also see what other accounts that you follow use that could be relevant to your strategy.

Create a unique company hashtag

If you’re looking to use Instagram for your jewelry business, using a unique hashtag for your business can help maximize the exposure, and can create a unique presence for your company that your followers can also use. The best way to integrate this strategy is to begin posting with it every time you post and then find ways to encourage your followers to use it in their posts.

Participate in industry hashtag trends

While this one may be a no-brainer it is still worth repeating. Participating in popular hashtags can help your business gain exposure to a wider audience who may not be searching for jewelry. While most are aware of the popular trends like #tbt, finding more generic industry-specific hashtags can also add some fun to your profile and help add variety to your page.

Pick your hashtag strategy for success

Using one, or all, of these Instagram hashtag strategies, can help your business stand out on Instagram and grow your following. Are there other hashtag tips that you use for your business account? Share them below in the comments!
